It was so great to see a group of local people getting together to do this wonderfully creative activity. It was also very poignant.
Whereas, this lovely group of ladies would more usually meet up to knit & crochet, on this day they were taking part in creating dozens of small sandcastle flags to mark the Armistice Day centenary.
On each flag, they wrote a personal message to those involved in fighting in the Wars of the past 100 years. These remembrance flags will be planted alongside many others to make up a a sea of sandcastles on Weston beach as part of the amazing Pages of the Sea event, orchestrated by Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle and produced locally by Theatre Orchard.
Pages of the Sea will take place on Armistice Day, Sunday 11 November on Weston-super-Mare beach from 1pm to 3pm and communities throughout the area are invited to join us in this moving, historic occasion and share a range of creative activities as well as place their own remembrance flag on the beach.
