Participation is an integral part of Theatre Orchard’s programme.  By developing enticing engagement opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds, we aim to build a homegrown community of cultural creators and consumers.  Participation opportunities vary in scale from one-off workshops to larger projects where communities co-create work with professional artists.  Sometimes we even work with local people to physically build performance spaces in their communities!  Growing a creative North Somerset where everyone is able to tap into their inner artist.

Theatre Orchard presents a Riot of Playful Workshops to Keep you Entertained this Autumn. Click Below to find out more.

Tropicana Troubadours

What's Happening?
Teenagers from Weston’s South Ward are getting stuck into Theatre Orchard’s professional performance programme in Weston-super-Mare, through seeing shows, participating in training opportunities with visiting companies, and enjoying ongoing collaboration with arts outreach practitioner Angie Athay-Hunt, who is delivering general theatre workshops and demystifying the art of theatre vlog and blog-ing.

Making the arts accessible to everyone.

Weston’s South Ward Performs

What's Happening?
Theatre Orchard has been working with residents of Weston’s South Ward for the past 11 years.  South Ward falls in the bottom 2% of socially deprived neighbourhoods in the UK, but that certainly doesn’t hinder the fantastic creativity of adults and young people alike who live there.

Over the past years we have worked together to produce 8 plays and 3 short films, all of which have explored social issues that affect daily lives within a context that is liberating, cathartic, collaborative and fun.   The film ‘Forever in Your Debt’ has been used as a tool for peer to peer education on illegal money lending nationwide, and also inspired a BBC 1 documentary on the subject. Theatre has given the residents of South Ward a voice and an ability to influence that is priceless.

Our ongoing programme on the South Ward has been delivered in partnership with a number of agencies including Avon and Somerset Police, and local housing associations.
