9 Million Nobodies
5th December 2019 @ 1:30 pm - 2:45 pmFree
In the not too distant future, humanity is confined to life inside ‘The Bubble’ – a scientifically engineered society where every basic need is artificially met.
Human contact has been eradicated, memories are wiped, babies are chipped at birth and false history is fed to children in the classroom.
There is fear of ‘The Outside’. A place so dangerous, a place of no return.
But what happens when you start to remember the truth, the past and your memories?..
‘9 Million Nobodies’ is a creative partnership project between Theatre Orchard’s accessible Adult Drama session, Theatre Lounge and Bristol Old Vic’s graduate training programme, Made in Bristol. Developed through weekly devising sessions and led by the life experiences of participants, 9 Million Nobodies (the number of people currently recorded in the UK as having described themselves to an agency as ‘lonely’) explores social isolation, loneliness and what it means to be human in a world of decreasing community and connection.
Theatre Lounge, run by Theatre Orchard, is a free, weekly, drama session open to all. Led by arts professionals, Theatre Lounge offers high quality work which is relaxed, participatory and inclusive, helping members to explore their own creativity in a supportive environment. Theatre Lounge also works in partnership with local Social Prescribing services.
Made in Bristol, run by Bristol Old Vic, is designed to give young theatre-makers an opportunity to train together, to become workshop leaders, facilitators and theatre makers. Made in Bristol create work that can reach out across Bristol and the South West, engaging with other regional arts organisations in the process.
