A pub play by Rina Vergano
“The Pub is the Hub, ladies and gents, so it’s use it or lose it time”. Johnny’s putting on a Big Fun fundraiser tonight at the Nags Head, though he’s not in the mood for fun…
HORSES! HORSES! is the darkly comical tale of a stolen horse, wild west-country soul and the mess we make of relationships. Landlord Johnny is desperately trying to save his pub, while his wife Susie is hiding out on Ted’s farm. A show performed in the midst of your local boozer with pub games, pints, crisps, heartbreak and laughter, country music, lots of karaoke and a few surprises.
Shortlisted for the Tobacco Factory Theatres’ Scriptspace Award, HORSES! HORSES! was first developed through Bristol Old Vic Ferment.
HORSES! HORSES! is written in darkly humorous style in the language of the pub, for promenade performance in rural pubs, amongst the pub-goers. Thanks to public funding from The National Lottery through Arts Council England, it is touring to pubs in Somerset, North Somerset, Bristol and the East of England between September-October 2018.
“A play with a strong voice and a brave theatrical bent (…) A fun show, written in the vernacular of the pub, which manages to offer both social commentary as well as a relationship drama…”
Wassail Theatre Company is Somerset’s flagship theatre company, creating work for Somerset audiences. Recent productions include THE SOMERSET CHARABANC, a show performed on a 1920’s miller’s cart pulled by two Suffolk punch horses and REX THE KING, which itself toured to pubs across the county.
The Theatre Orchard partners with many companies and individuals on its journey to transform North Somerset into a region that is an increasingly dynamic, playful and stimulating place to live, work and visit.
Bristol Old Vic is the longest continuously-running theatre in the UK and following a recent £12.5 million redevelopment project, is now one of the most modern and comfortable, giving audiences an even more intimate theatrical experience.
Horses! Horses! has been made possible public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England, and South Somerset District Council as well as through Take Art’s theatre development initiative, Barn.
