Weston Museum is supporting home schooling during lockdown inspired by kids
Weston Museum have been supporting local schools and home schooling families with films inspired by history questions from local children.
During the first lockdown of 2020, the team at Weston Museum in Burlington Street created a whole range of digital resources and fun videos to support their local community. With the current lockdown, the team are again offering videos, information and lots of insights into history via the museum’s social media channels.
In order to support schools in the area and home schooling families, the learning and community engagement team have begun a series of videos called #AskTheMuseum. These will be answering questions about history, starting off with questions from local children and class groups, then later from the wider public.
The first of these videos features an exploration of historical toys, with the next exploring life in the Stone Age. Later videos will look at particular themes and eras from local history. The team will also be pairing up with some experts from North Somerset Council and the South West Heritage Trust to look at what some different jobs in the heritage and conservation sectors involve.
“Our most enthusiastic and inquisitive visitors are usually our school groups and we’ve missed them immensely this year. So it’s been great to still be able to support their learning and help out some teachers by answering the children’s questions with our newest set of videos”
